You have to change your identity
Updated: Sep 30, 2018
People make the mistake of setting goals, doing incredible bursts of efforts to get to a new position and within a month, 6 months, a year they are back to where they started. Be it weight loss, a lotto win, a push to get more customers, a promotion. Why is that?
It is because you are at this higher/better spot with your old identity. Eventually your results will go back to match that identity.
In order to achieve lasting change you first have to change your identity to the one that corresponds with your goals. If you want to lose 10 pounds, you have to be 10 pounds less in your mind when you start your diet. If you want a promotion, you have to be that manager, that leader before you ask your boss or pick up the phone to recruit.
Investing in your Self is the key to start the process. Most people who are on this path attend seminars, hire coaches, read books. They are so very important, but just as important is the people you surround yourself with. Evaluate your relationships; are they supportive of you and your dreams? If not, limit your exposure to those people or eliminate them (the relationships not the people) all together. Remember, unless they are your family, once you are at your new level, new friends will show up who are at that level. Also, the experts in those podcasts and videos count as part of your tribe. Immerse yourself in their messages and soak up the energy they are giving you. Make that your new reality.
Once you change your identity, your goals will effortlessly flow to you, that is the law.
