The grass is always greener ...

Updated: Sep 30, 2018

We grew up with the saying "The grass is always greener on the other side".

I was listening to a podcast this morning and it made me think about; why is the grass greener on the other side? What happens to the "grass" on the other side that makes it so beautiful that people on this side of the road notice it?

Probably someone really pays attention to it: waters it, fertilizes it, cuts it just at the right time, sings to it, learns new ways to keep it the perfect shade of green. In short, spends a lot of time and effort on making sure that it is and will be perfect. So why isn't your "grass" as green?

What's going on on your side of the road? Maybe you are just starting out with this grass thing and need more time. Maybe you have three kids and a dog and they take up your time and energy, or could be that you tried and tried but you grass still looks like crap but your rock garden is amazing!!

The grass is greener where it is nurtured and where it is an obsession. If that is not your thing then stop punishing yourself about it! Why are you focusing on the stupid grass when you have three wonderful children and the cutest dog? Who cares about the grass if you have an award winning rock garden? If you want a decent lawn then outsource it and focus on what gives you joy.

On the other hand if green grass is what rings your bell, then start learning and doing! Invest the time and energy your "grass" requires. Stop whining and get down to business!
